HARDSCAPE INSTALLATION

Hardscape Installation typically just means anything that is incorporated into your outdoor area or yard that is not a plant. Hard is of course describing its nature, such as a patio or wall compared to a plant or tree. It seems the request for hardscape installation in landscapes has become more common recently. If you picture an older home such as in movies, typically they are very green, with just grass and trees and plants throughout. There could be kids running around playing in it, but typically there are not many hard surfaces. There may be a smaller patio just outside the backdoor, but the rest of the area was mostly covered in grass and used to play ball or not really used much at all. I think the change came with more people wanting to have better access throughout their outdoor spaces and making them more practical to use.

Modern designs seem to incorporate hardscape installation for a few reasons. With environmental factors at play, hardscape allows for less maintenance and therefore less resources to maintain it. The modern designs are just incorporating cleaner and sleeker looks, which typically come from concrete steps or walls mixed into the landscape. Also the practicality of the hardscape allows for more use and also increases the value of the property. The combination of less maintenance and also the appearance that comes with a hardscape that requires no ongoing maintenance means that it will look the same all year round. The same cannot really be said about normal plants and grass as the varying weather and seasons usually changes its appearance. So with all this it makes sense to incorporate hardscape into your outdoor space. The question is just what exactly you will choose to integrate into the mix.

Hardscape installation can consist of any type of material that is not living, such as stone, wood, concrete, brick, or metal. They can define boundaries and create a nice outlay to your space. Patios and decks are some of the most common, and are easily seen to be functional and useful for a property.

Walkways and pathways can be added throughout the property and outdoor space for ease of access and to reduce the use of grass or other natural elements. Retaining walls and steps can be used to maintain vegetation in certain areas and display them nicely. Water features can bring a calming sense to the space, or could be eccentric and lavish. Fireplaces add another fun option for entertaining and aesthetics combined into one. Seating areas are extremely useful to accommodate more guests and to provide a place for adults to rest while watching their children play.

There are many reasons that hardscape may be wanted or needed in an outdoor area. It provides extra usage to a space that may have not had much practical utilization before. Of course it is not required in any given landscape, but it does usually add a nice visual touch that is desired by homebuyers. Suggestions and recommendations can be made after visiting your property to see how exactly hardscape could be utilized to enhance the space. A nice mix of hardscape and softscape helps to maintain a diverse environment, so let us know what is of interest to you and we can help design a plan to make that vision come to life.
